FAQs
What is a Bonded Warehouse?
A Bonded Warehouse that is based in the United Kingdom is a secure warehousing facility that complies with all HMRC (Revenue and Customs) regulations for customs and is approved to store goods under bond for importers.
This means that companies or individuals importing goods into the UK from abroad or manufacturing goods in the UK can store them and defer their payment of duty and taxes. Within a bonded warehouse goods are still considered to be “in-transit” to their final destination. Therefore these charges are only payable when the bonded goods leave the warehouse for circulation within the UK or are exported for release to another country.
Will my goods be secure?
Security is paramount in every element of the infrastructure and operation of United Supplies, as would be expected within a HMRC approved bonded warehouse environment. Our secure facility only permits entry to United Supplies staff and the key factors are security, confidentiality and efficiency.
What sort of goods can you store?
Whatever goods you will benefit from deferring your duty payment we can accomodate. From high-value single bottles of wine, palletts of cigarettes, whiskey barrels to machinery parts and anything else you may require, we have the facilities.
Can you help with duty payments?
Our in-house customs experts will take care of all duties and taxes as per HMRC requirements when you choose to move your goods into free circulation in the UK.
Can I store wines and spirits?
Yes a bonded warehouse is an excellent solution for storage of your wines and spirits, where you can defer duty payments until the good are ready to be consumed.
Can my products be amended whilst in storage?
While stored under bond, goods can undergo any processes that would not be classed as manufacturing. At United Supplies we can assist in preparing your goods for market, for example they can be cleaned, sorted, labelled or put in new packaging.
Is it difficult to remove my goods at short notice?
Absolutely not, we have our dedicated team on hand to deal with any queries or requests and as a small family-run business we can be a lot more reactive to sudden requests than some bigger bond facilities.
Is it possible to re-export out of the UK after storage?
Absolutely, goods can be re-exported from the facility and it may be that they never incur any duty charge at all. Our in-house customs team can help with any questions or queries.
How long can my goods stay in storage?
We are very flexible with our storage commitment terms, and in theory goods can be stored indefinitely. We can accomodate goods by the month, year or even longer, and agreements can be amended to your every-changing needs.
